Research of "Trifles" and "A Jury Of Her Peers"
Women

Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters stuck together with Mrs. Wright to try to keep her from being charged with murder. They noticed that the Canary that the Wright's had was wrapped in silk and was dead ("Trifles"). They knew that Mrs. Wright had a good reason for killing her husband and were willing to help her any way they could. Men would not have done this for one another because men and women have a different opinion of what is an acceptable reason for self-defense.

I feel that these works show that women also are able to stand up for themselves. Women in general are pushed around in society and are not given chances that they should be given. Mrs. Wright stood up for herself and defended her life as well as her pride by murdering her husband. I also feel that her friends Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Haile covered for her and helped her fabricate her story prove that women are wiling to stand up for one another to better themselves. That was extremely rare in the time that this story was set. If women did stand up for themselves they were oppressed so to speak, by the men that ran the governments around them.

"Susan Glaspell's play of everyday morality sparks heated debate on men's and women's differing sense of justice." (Scribblng Women)
