There were not many laws to protect women from their husbands abuse during this time . Women were like rag dolls to their husbands and could be treated however they wanted to treat them with little or no protection by the authorities. Spousal abuse had been neglected for over 50 years (Angel). Women are protected more now but still laws lack in the complete coverage of abuse of women and children.
